Scripture Cake Recipe

Scripture Cake
Judges 5:25: ".she brought forth BUTTER in a lordly dish."
8 oz butter
Jeremiah 6:20: "To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the SWEET CANE from a far country?"
8 oz sugar
I Samuel 14:25: "And all they of the land came to a wood: and there was HONEY upon the ground."
1 Tbsp honey
Jeremiah 17:11: "As the partridge sitteth on EGGS, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right shall leave them in the midst of his days."
3 beaten eggs
I Samuel 30:12: "And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of RAISINS."
8 oz raisins
Nahum 3:12: "Al thy strongholds shall be like FIG trees with the first ripe fig; if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater."
8 oz dried figs, chopped
Numbers 17:8: "Behold, the rod of Aaron.brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded ALMONDS."
2 oz almonds, chopped
I Kings 4:22: "Solomon's provision for one day was thirty measures of fine FLOUR.
1 lb of flour (1/2 whole wheat/1/2 unbleached white)
II Chronicles 9:9: "Neither was there any such SPICE as the queen of Sheba gave King Solomon."
Spices: _ tsp ginger, _ tsp cloves, _ tsp cinnamon
Leviticus 2:13: ".with all thine offerings thou shalt offer SALT."
_ tsp salt
Amos 4:5: ".offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with LEAVEN."
1 tsp baking powder
Judges 4:19: "She opened a bottle of MILK and gave him drink, and covered him."
3 Tbsp milk
Prepare 9" round cake tin, greased. Set the oven to warm 325°F/160°C. Cream together the butter, sugar and honey. Gradually mix in the eggs a little at a time, beating well between each addition. Fold in the raisins, chopped figs and chopped almonds.
Sift together the flour, mixed spices, salt and baking powder and fold into the mixture with the milk.
Turn into the tin, level the top, and then hollow out the centre slightly. Sprinkle nuts over to decorate, if liked.
Bake for two hours or until a warm skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool in the tin for 10 minutes before turning out and cooling on wire rack.

Sally I remember this cake and the fun we had when you served it in England. I want to try to bake it myself sometime.
