Assets and Liabilities

by: Ellene Meece

The success of each company and workplace environment and productivity is underscored by asset and liability values. We declare failure when our liability column is laden down and our asset column is scant.

We all want our assets to outweigh our liabilities but I believe the more significant spiritual question is: Do we see ourselves as an asset or liability in God's ledger? Knowing and understanding we are a valuable asset in God's kingdom will give LIFE to our companies, workplace and homes.

Dan Stone accurately wrote in his book, The Rest of The Gospel*, "This life won't work until you get yourself out of the way. You get yourself out of the way simply by believing this: you are not a liability to God. You are His precious asset. As long as you live under the false idea that you are a liability to God, then no matter how things are going you will feel inadequate. You will feel that you come up short and are not all that God wants you to be. You will constantly be focused on trying to get your act together. Until you see that you are already all God wants you to be - that you are an asset to God, not a liability - then you are never established in the fact that living waters are flowing out through you. But when you finally make peace with who you are, you can begin to experience the realm of life that God has destined you for."

Isn't that wonderful? Our frail human vessels are exactly what God wants to show His power, love and glory through! Accept the fact that you are contributing to His plan just by being you!

II Corinthians 4:7 (Amp) says it this way, "However, we possess this precious treasure [the divine Light of the Gospel] in [frail, human] vessels of earth, that the grandeur and exceeding greatness of the power may be shown to be from God and not from ourselves."

If you are like me, you have been tempted to perform for your co-workers and employees because they know you are Christian and there are certain expectations they will always put on you with that label. But, the truth is you will never fulfill their expectations no matter how hard you try!

Instead, meditate in the fact that you are an earthy human being - where God has chosen to live! Sit in the Light of His presence, warm yourself by the fire of His love and just be your own unique self! God ordains it.

When we died on the cross with Christ, we forever died to being a liability. We are now a beautiful, essential asset in this earth to His glory and praise!
