Overcoming Fear
by: Ellene Meece
"I am Afraid, I hear myself say.
And in the saying, I practice the presence of Fear,
rather than rest in the safety of God.
Jesus says His Spirit within me is one of
power, love, and a sound mind.
But He whispers while Fear is loud.
Fear screams for me to run.
But God beckons me, Come.
Fear pushes me to produce protection.
But God whispers I have already overcome.
And so I stand on rock and
watch as the sand sinks swiftly down.
To be love-led rather than fear-driven
is to stand on the rock underneath.
Where have you placed your feet today?"

Fear paralyzes dreams and stunts growth. Fear makes a good day turn into a tense day. Fear is the choreographer of sickness and high blood pressure. Fear ruins business relationships and drains confidence. Fear forces us to distrust people. Fear does not come from God.
However, overcoming fear can open the door to hope and new dreams. Stamps a smile on rough circumstances and melts away stress like a good cup of tea. It brings us into a 'large place' where all our relationships are filled with trust and vitality. Overcoming fear comes from God.
I can distinctly remember a couple of years ago when fear had a grip on my mind for weeks in a row as we struggled financially with no rescue in sight. I can also remember the day when I "gave up" and released it all to embrace God's assurance that no matter what, He would never leave nor forsake me.
If fear has crept into your thoughts and dug ruts in your brain patterns, let God whisper these words to you today:
John 16:33, "I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have perfect peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trails and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world (fear). I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you."
I Timothy 1:7, "For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but He has given us a spirit of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self control."
John 4:18, "There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror!"
Deuteronomy 33:27, "The eternal God is your refuge and dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms; He drove the enemy before you and thrust them out, saying, Destroy!"
Luke 12:7, "But [even] the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be struck with fear or seized with alarm; you are of greater worth than many [flocks] of sparrows."
Romans 8:15, "For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father!"
Close your eyes and picture yourself on a serene sandy beach in the midst of a warm day. Imagine the cool sand beneath your feet as God's abounding grace, strong and secure. Be aware that your feet are firmly planted in Him. Dig your toes in and breathe His love. Savor His promises. Trust His strong everlasting arms beneath you. Release fear and live love.

Thanks Ellene!! Your words are amazing. Thanks for the reminder to "live love!" Fear only grounds us and we are meant to fly.
