The Certainty Factor

by: Ellene Meece

Last week, we sat in a local restaurant with a fellow Christian businessman who shared the growing dilemma of a missing factor in current business deals: certainty. No proven ability to perform. No track record of accomplishments. No credentials to go with the sales speech.

Our world is filled with uncertainty! Changes and crisis all around us threaten our business growth and overall security. We are tempted to feel we are adrift in a raging storm with no control over anything . . . and yet the steadfast love and certainty of God is persistent and fails not.

Eugene Peterson wrote in his book, "Run With the Horses," "God's persistence is not a dogged repetition of duty. It has all the surprise and creativity, and yet all the certainty and regularity of a new day." Then he gave a beautiful analogy: "Sunrise - when the spontaneous and the certain arrive at the same time."

I am so thankful that life's surprises are accompanied by God's certainty, thankful that I have somewhere to put my trust without fear of slipping into a threatening abyss.

Hebrews 6:19, 20a proclaims, "Now we have this hope as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul - it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out upon it - a hope that reaches farther and enters into the very CERTAINTY of the Presence within the veil, where Jesus has entered in for us in advance . . . "

Do you feel frustrated with the current status of events? Are your options thin? Is uncertainty dogging your steps?

Step out onto the hope that cannot break down. Embrace the certainty factor of Jesus Christ Himself!

It is true to say uncertainty has even made some christians not sure of their destiny . I think time has come that we have to tell our people to decide once and for all . Thomas doubted the resurrected Jesus christ . Jesus told him the lucky ones are they that believe without seeing . Thank you sister Ellen for that nice observation . God bless you .
