The Secret

by: Ellene Meece

We seem to be surrounded with powerful slogans giving us the secret to living life successfully, reminding us of what's important and bringing us truth in short clips and excerpts that are easy to remember.

The secret to a happy marriage is... The secret to this recipe is... The secret to parenting is.... THE Secret to anything is usually found in brief quotes that become a revelation to us personally.

In reference to the secret of being a great leader, here's a wonderful collection of quotes taken from the book, The Secret - What Great Leaders Know and Do by Ken Blanchard and Mark Miller. Ready?

  • "Everything rises and falls on leadership."

  • "True leadership has nothing to do with one's level in the organization."

  • "A key question you must continuously ask yourself is 'Am' I a serving leader or a self -serving leader?"

  • "Creating a compelling vision is the privileges and most serious demands of leaders."

  • "It's the leader's job to make time today to ensure that there is a tomorrow."

  • "With every pair of hands you hire, you get a free brain."

  • "Helping people leverage their strengths is one of the most rewarding parts of the leader's role."

  • "People will not give you their hand until they can see your heart." John Maxwell

  • "If success is about results and relationships, you'll have to take a few relational risks along the way."

  • "You must gain the trust of your people. If you don't have their trust, you'll never be a great leader."

  • "People who want to be great leaders must embrace an attitude of service to others."

  • "The best teachers are always those who know they haven't got it all figured out."

  • "The ability to develop capable successors is a hallmark of great leaders."

  • "Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve." Martin Luther King, Jr.

Hopefully, one of these bites of truth found its way into your heart. Here's a couple more you can take to the bank from the Author of Life:

  • "Do to others as you would like them to do to you" (Luke 6:31).

  • Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. (Philippians 2:3).

If you are a leader in your community, workplace, home or church...consider embracing any of these as "the secret" to great leadership.
